WVU Honor's Hall

Morgantown, WV

Owner: West Virginia University

Completed: 2009

Cost: $17.5 Million

Size: 90,000 Square Feet

Contractor: TEDCO Construction

This five-story student housing building accommodates 362 residents. The design includes apartments for Resident Hall Coordinators and Resident Facility Leaders, a multi-purpose room, laundry facility, administrative offices, fellowship advising, and honors college administration.

To resolve the irregular shape of the property, two “L” shaped housing wings are joined at a common circular lobby/lounge space.  A slight rotation of the western wing resolves the position of the structure in relationship to the geometry of the streets.  This pivot has the added benefit of opening up the internal courtyard which is designed to benefit the Honor’s Hall residents as well as those in the adjacent Summit Hall.  Exterior masonry draws from the context of the Downtown campus academic buildings.
