Who we are

Paul A. Walker, AIA

Principal-in-Charge | Design Architect

 

Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee in 1982. After practicing architecture in West Virginia, North Carolina and Alabama, Paul founded Paradigm Architecture in October 2000 in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2002 he and his family moved to Morgantown, West Virginia to open the 2nd Paradigm office. “I have been fortunate to work on a wide range of project types including medical, commercial, corporate, educational, governmental, hospitality, institutional, recreational, religious, and residential.” The value of these projects range from a few thousand dollars to over 78 million dollars. Paul is currently licensed in 11 states.

Outside of the office:  "Wishing Anita and I were at Kiawah... if not there, probably attending WVU Sports or hanging with my grandson Hayden."

Dave graduated from Auburn University with a degree in architecture and practiced in North Carolina before returning to his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. As one of the founding members he has spent the last 14 years of his 3o+ year career with Paradigm Architecture.  Dave has enjoyed working on many different project types including an Off-Crew Operations Building for a Trident Submarine Base, and Charlotte Douglas Airport.  His resume also includes healthcare projects for the past 19 years at Russell Medical Center. Current responsibilities include project design, project management, construction documents, quality control, and specifications for all office projects.

 

Outside of the office:  "My wife is the center of my universe. We both enjoy cooking for our family and friends, gardening, and traveling. I’m a passionate Auburn University football fan while my wife is an Alabama fan.  I also enjoy whitewater canoeing and rafting.."

David H. Snider, AIA

Grant T. Gramstad, AIA

Project Architect

 

Grant has over 20 years of experience in the design industry as an architect.  He is one of the founding members of Paradigm Architecture and is the Architect of Record for all of the firms’ Alabama projects. Grant received a Master of Architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans and spent a year studying architecture abroad at Bath University in England.  In the early 1990s, he practiced in New Orleans and then moved to Birmingham in 1994.  Grant works with clients in retail, hospitality, government, and higher education, and helps turn their concepts into the built environment.  In addition to practicing architecture, he serves as a Trustee at his local church.

 

Outside of the office: “Outside of the office???  What does that mean?  Is there life outside of the office?”

Todd G. Christopher, AIA

Project Manager

 

Todd holds a Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic & State University and practiced in North Carolina prior to coming to work with Paradigm Architecture in 2009.  Since 2002, Todd has been involved with multiple project types from simple renovations to multimillion dollar cancer research laboratories.  Todd enjoys working on projects from conception to completion and enjoys working with owners to see their visions become reality.  He has a special interest in daylighting, acoustics, and natural ventilation in the built environment.  He has served as a mentor with the American Institute of Architects' Intern Development Program and on the McGraw-Hill Construction Panel.  

 

Outside of the office:  "I enjoy playing banjo, listening to bluegrass music, woodworking, and spending time with my wife Staci and our children Abbi and Evan."

Tyler B. Etris,  AIA

Architect | Designer

 

Tyler started working at Paradigm as a summer intern in 2007 and worked every summer and Christmas break until graduation from the University of Tennessee in 2011 where he achieved a Bachelor in Architecture.  While a student at the University of Tennessee, he had the opportunity to study six months abroad at the Crakow University of Technology in Poland. Tyler joined Paradigm full time in 2011, and is responsible for design, presentation drawings, development of construction drawings, and marketing. He believes architecture has the potential to strongly influence lives and sees design as a way to impact the community.

 

Outside of the office:  "Probably dreaming about Disney, watching any kind of sport, eating some kind of food, or exploring with my wife Liz, two daughters, and dog Riley."

Steve A. Konya II

Construction Administration

 

Steve is a graduate of Fairmont State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. He has been working in the field of architecture since 1995 and has been with Paradigm Architecture since 2005. Steve’s responsibilities include construction administration, development of construction drawings and documents, project management tasks, and marketing.  He is a professional photographer and member of the Professional Photographers of West Virginia.

 

Outside of the office:  "I enjoy photography, outdoors, and hiking, as well taking care of our special needs cats with my partner Stephanie."

Aaron White

CAD/BIM Manager | Production

 

Since joining Paradigm in 2008, Aaron's responsibilities have included development of construction drawings and documents and project management tasks. He has a combined eleven years of experience in commercial architecture. Aaron's work ethic, expertise in drafting, BIM modeling, and carpentry, make him an essential piece to the Paradigm team. If there is ever a question about Revit, Aaron is the guy to ask!

 

Outside of the office:  "I love spending time outside and working with my hands in such pursuits as carpentry and mechanics."

Dave Smith

CAD Designer | Production

Dave has over 10 years of experience as a CAD Designer.  Dave obtained an Associates of Applied Science in CADD in 2005 from Virginia College. He joined Paradigm Architecture in 2005.  As a CAD Designer, Dave has diverse project experience and believes the relationships he has developed are the most rewarding part of his career.

 

Outside of the office:  "I enjoy an active lifestyle in community service with non-profit organizations, coaching little league athletics, and fishing."

Sheryl Snider

Marketing Coordinator | Administrative Assistant

Sheryl has over 30 years of experience working in an architecture firm. She worked in South Carolina for 20 years before moving back to West Virginia in 2009 when she joined Paradigm. Sheryl does many things for Paradigm including coordination of marketing, administrative assistance, as well as coordiation of in house construction contracts. She also worked with Paul and Dave Snider for four years at a firm in SC.

 

Outside of the office:  "Reading spy novels, doing some kind of craft, or working on/improving my aquarium."

Amanda Gramstad

Designer | Administrative Assistant

Amanda received a Master of Architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans graduating in 1994.  During the summer of 1993 she studied architecture in Greece. Since starting a family, Amanda has primarily worked part time at Paradigm.  Her work includes developing design concepts and carrying out administrative duties at the Birmingham office. 

 

Outside of the office: "I enjoy 'creating in the kitchen'”.

Trey Snider

Recycling Coordinator | Mail Specialist

Trey, or "Sterling" as we like to call him, joined the Paradigm team in 2009. Sterling has the experience to appropriately dispose of all kinds of renewable waste. His expertise allows our office to practice an innovative and environmentally friendly waste management program. In addition, he is in charge of the distribution services of Paradigm's mail.

 

Outside of the office:  "Ohhh, you will probably find me working on a puzzle, watching a movie, reading about Marvel."
