WVU Cary Gymnasium Renovation
Morgantown, WV
Owner: West Virginia University
Completed: Winter 2025
Size: 4,000 Square Feet
Contractor: The March-Westin Company
WVU’s Cary Gymnasium underwent a renovation to improve the training, support, and team spaces used by the WVU Gymnastics program. The project included renovations and upgrades to the main entry, lobby, locker room, athletic training room, and gymnastics training areas. Within the main training space, new flooring, lighting, windows, and graphics were incorporated to create a brighter and more modern environment for student-athletes and coaches.
The renovated locker room was designed to provide improved functionality while creating a dedicated team environment for the gymnasts. Individual makeup and preparation stations were incorporated for each student-athlete, providing personal spaces to prepare for competitions and meets. The adjoining restrooms were reorganized and expanded to provide a more efficient layout, while improvements to the athletic training facilities and team lounge created additional spaces for recovery, preparation, and interaction among athletes and staff.
A new mezzanine was also incorporated into the renovation and serves as a student-athlete lounge, meeting space, and video review area. The entry, lobby, and photo and video areas were expanded to improve circulation and provide additional opportunities for team branding and recruiting. New and expanded windows throughout the facility allow more natural light into the training areas and provide views toward the adjacent Hope Coliseum from both the gymnastics floor and mezzanine level. The completed renovation provides WVU Gymnastics with a modern, functional, and welcoming facility designed to support training, competition preparation, team development, and recruiting.
